Significant testing of imported coconut drinks and powders has taken place nationally for the presence of undeclared dairy (milk) and a number have returned with positive detections for the presence of undeclared milk or milk products.

Since 23 September 2015 there have been 11 recalls of imported coconut drinks, powders and other coconut based products.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand is advising any consumers who are allergic to milk or milk products to be mindful of recent recalls involving imported coconut products. Products have ranged from powders to coconut drinks and have been sold at smaller Asian retailers as well as larger outlets, chemists and online.

Clinicians are asked to talk to their patients with dairy (milk) allergies to make them aware of the recalls.

Further information regarding the recalls is available on the Food Standards Australia New Zealand website.
